Reinhard Gehlen was a top Nazi spymaster who was allowed to operate his own intelligence agency after WWII. The “Gehlen Org” employed hundreds of ex-Nazis, became heavily infiltrated, and yet for years was the CIA’s only eyes and ears on the ground in the Soviet Bloc.

This is part of the arguement that the Nazis never lost WW2, they simply changed location and tactics.  There is good indication that Operation Paperclip Nazi Scientists brought to the US were communicating with their captured Russian counterparts (other German scientists scooped up by the Soviets at the end of the war), and this was part of the reason why the Americans fell behind in the early space race and had so many failures.
